March 21st Isla Isabela - Isla Santa Cruz

Published: 27.03.2023

Before we say goodbye to Isla Isabela, we drive to the Sierra Negro volcano. We pass through lava fields, green forests, and up to the volcano. The trees are covered in moss, as if they have veils. The volcano is still active and erupts about every 10 years. When we reach the crater rim, we hike down into the caldera. There is steam rising over yellow stones and a strong smell of sulfur. The sulfur rocks look amazing. It's slowly getting hot up here, even though the sky is cloudy and it's raining a little. After reaching the crater rim, we have a small snack and head back to the hotel. A refreshing dip in the hotel pool and then to the ferry that takes us back to Santa Cruz. The captain is probably under some time pressure because he speeds over the water, poor spine. We have a nice evening at the Japanese restaurant.
