On the 22nd we arrived at Bucks Lake. It's close to Quincy, where Brian spent his early childhood and where he often vacationed with family. His dad, Frank, joined us. His sister and cousin were also supposed to come, but their car broke down, so they couldn't make it.
Frank, Kirsten, and I got to know each other while chatting, with him trying our muesli and going on a boat ride on the lake. That ride was spontaneous. While we were planning to take a little dip, Brian swam over to a boat and asked the couple driving it if they would take us for a little ride, as it would be a perfect trip down memory lane for him. And they did! I couldn’t imagine this happening in Germany. That’s really something I appreciate about Americans. Many of them are quite open and friendly. It turned out that the boat owner and Brian's dad had quite a lot to talk about, as they knew many of the same people from the area. After our day on the lake, Frank took us out to dinner. The evening was lovely. The next morning we set off for Reno to restock supplies and pick up Brian's friend Sabrina to take her with us to Burning Man.
