Auckland/New Zealand

March 4, 2024 Auckland

The harbor in Auckland is very pleasant. Our ship was able to dock almost in the middle of the city.

I had booked another tour. We were quickly divided into three minibuses and off we went.

We drove to the highest of the extinct volcanoes, Mount Eden. To get a look into the grass-covered crater, we had to climb to the summit on foot. We also had a very nice view of Auckland.

Next we visited Cornwall Park. After a walk we were able to fortify ourselves with a drink.

We visited a historic winter garden and the monument of a Mr. Savage, whom I did not know.

Afterwards we stumbled around between the cannons of a former fortification. Unfortunately, it had now started to rain heavily. So we weren't too unhappy that our trip was over.

After my fellow travelers had been dropped off at the ship, I stayed in the minibus so that the driver could take me to the highlight of my city visit.

The Auckland Tower would have provided an excellent view in good weather. So the young people pointed out a visibility ratio of 4/10 and sold me a senior ticket, even though I admitted that I was still a year too young for that.

The tower has two observation decks. I could see our ship from below when I took a video once in all directions. There are glass floor panels on this deck through which you can see straight down. It's a strange feeling to be standing on one of those.

Another elevator takes you to the upper observation deck. Meanwhile the rain had increased and our ship was swallowed by it. Nevertheless, one brave person used the time to bungee jump from the tower.

On the way back to the ship I got to know the city a little and its overpriced shops.

My evening program consisted of the film “River Wild” in the cinema.
