Gansbaai

On the way to Gansbaai.

Along the beautiful coast in the heavy rain.

After breakfast by the pool in the wind, we set off eastward to our next destination.

Unfortunately, the weather today is cold and rainy, which is a real shame, as this coastal section offers sensational views.

We had imagined the weather would be different.

Our accommodation in Gansbaai has a great balcony with a sea view, but it's too windy and too cold to enjoy it.

After breakfast, we go for a round of golf.

At the Gansbaai Golf Course, supposedly the southernmost in Africa, turtles wander around,

Lapwings nest in the middle of the fairway and there are 500 m long holes. (So long solo…) All in all, it's a beautifully located course in the dunes with a view of the sea.

We are lucky with the weather in the morning, but then it clouds over again. We make a short detour to the Danger Point Lighthouse.

The name Danger Point comes from the treacherous reefs and rocks underwater that make it very dangerous for ships to sail close to the coast. The area is also known for the many Great White Sharks that are found here. Between Danger Point and Cape Infanta, east of Gansbaai, over 140 ships have sunk.

In the evening, we reserved a table at the Blue Goose through Valleria. The food is fantastic and very fairly priced.

Our landlord tells us that the whales were only briefly present this year... because of COVID 🫣 I won't say anything more about that.

We just catch the sunset, but it's definitely too cold to sit outside.

The B&B is a bit dated, but Valleria is such a lovely and funny person that it makes up for everything.
