Day 24: Oslo - the last capital

For the first time in a very long time, we were able to sleep in this morning - until nine o'clock!

Then we had a leisurely breakfast in the kitchen under the watchful eye of the strange cat, made sandwiches, and packed our things.

Finally, around noon, we made our way through the hazy Lillehammer towards the train station. Along the way, we encountered the trains that had the weekend off (and only this weekend 😑) and saw some houses that were for sale. With today's election results, you can kind of understand why...

After filling our water bottles with real spring water from Lillehammer at the train station, we got back on the rail replacement bus, which took us along the Mjøsa Lake and through fields and mountains towards the capital in about three hours.

In the middle of the city, a tunnel spat us out onto a gravel parking lot near the main train station. We gathered our backpacks and first went to the tourist information office to get an overview. Afterwards, we got reservations and tickets for the next leg on Tuesday, before dragging ourselves and our backpacks to the lower level of the opera house.

The opera house in Oslo somewhat resembles stacked ice floes and is completely made of Carrara marble and glass on the outside. The steps up didn't seem too inviting with our backpacks, so we'll probably conquer this viewpoint tomorrow.

After a short metro ride and a few minutes' walk, we finally arrived at our accommodation. The room offers a wonderful view over the city, with its lights sparkling against the dark sky right now.

For dinner today, we had pizza or calzone, which we picked up and enjoyed comfortably in our accommodation. After a shower, it's time to go to bed so that we can face Oslo with full energy tomorrow.
