Tandem Tour Day 66-67

Published: 08.07.2017

Petra:

It's been a whole week now and we're here in Friedrichroda at the mountain hotel for some rest and now we can write the final lines about the tour.

On Saturday we took the train from Bremen to Uelzen and from there to Magdeburg. In Uelzen we only had 10 minutes, but we still managed. From Magdeburg we went to Claudia and Lutz and let ourselves be pampered there. The next day, after a rich breakfast, we went to the train station in Magdeburg, had enough time to board and then everything went well until Heldrungen. Shortly before Heldrungen, my dear husband asked if I wanted to ride another 50 km with the bike. I declined, but an 'evil force' overheard. After the doors had closed, the announcement came that the train only goes to Etzleben because a freight train is stuck on the track. Since nobody really knew how to proceed, we got off and continued with the bike to Sömmerda. There we fortified ourselves with coffee and cake and then went back to the train station. We were quite annoyed there. An automated announcement made us switch from platform 1 to platform 3 and then the arriving train or the train conductor sent us back to platform 1. That's when I yelled something. When a train finally arrived and we sat inside, everything went well. That was quite the 'great' finale.

Uwe:

The 'train travel days' are mostly relaxed, but there are exhausting boarding, changing, and exiting phases in which the luggage, the tandem, and us have to be transported by mostly hectic travelers and usually via staircases. Our 'excursion' brought us a 3-hour delay.

So, our 'last' big bike tour is over. Our main goal, spending a longer time with and on the bike, has been achieved. The total kilometers covered also correspond to what we had planned.

Since the daily kilometer performances corresponded to our fitness level and age, there is no major state of exhaustion to report. Apart from the 'marks' from our fall, there are no painful joints, muscles, or other body parts as a result of the tour.

We were lucky with the weather. We didn't have a continuous rain phase. If it rained, it was mostly short showers or it rained at night or when we were indoors.
