Opoutama Cooks Cove Walkway

Published: 05.03.2018

Later we did the 'Opoutama Cooks Cove Walkway' for about three hours.

Right at the beginning, we were once again in a green hilly landscape as far as the eye could see. Many sheep were at home here, seeking shade under the trees.

When we reached the first lookout point, we had a great view of the sea and the rest of our hiking trail.

Right next to it, hidden away, we could see the previously visited 'Tolaga Bay Wharf'. A gigantic viewpoint that once again reflects the length of the bridge.

A little further on, we reached a huge hole in the rock, through which we could walk all the way to the sea.

Just five minutes away from there was the famous bay where Captain Cook interrupted his journey in 1769 to repair his ship and restock supplies.

There were sheep right on the beach. Even after seeing countless sheep throughout New Zealand, they were something special on the beach!
