Hello dear ones,
We have decided to create a blog to share our impressions and experiences in a new country with all of you. About 2 years ago, we decided to embark on the adventure of living abroad and I applied as an international teaching assistant. It didn't take long and we received the first offers. We had interviews with Jakarta, Indonesia and Lima, Peru, and then a German school in Buenos Aires contacted me. After several Skype conversations, it was clear that we wanted to go there and the preparations began.
My work contract started on August 1, 2020, and initially we had online classes from Germany because our first flight in July was postponed due to Corona. It was unclear when there would be another opportunity for us to fly. In the end, we managed to get a flight on September 12th via Sao Paulo.
Since we had a new tenant for our house starting at the end of August, we moved to Appenweier for 10 days to the house of friends who are currently still in China.
Before we could actually fly, we had to make some preparations due to Corona, such as getting a health certificate, an exemption from wearing masks, and the corresponding Covid test for Lea (which could not be older than 48 hours), various declarations from the Argentine embassy so that we could enter the country, a pass for Argentina, etc...
When we finally set off for the airport on September 12th at noon, we just hoped that we had all the necessary documents with us... We had to be at the airport in Frankfurt 5 hours before the flight and even though there were hardly any people at the airport, checking in took quite a long time because of our diplomatic passports, without which we would not have been able to fly since tourists are currently not allowed to travel to Argentina. Once the suitcases were checked in, it was time to wait. The airport was mostly closed and besides a bakery, not much was open. Our flight didn't depart until 9:35 p.m. and everyone was tired, but it worked out fine and because of Lea's disability (we brought a wheelchair), we were allowed to board the plane as one of the first passengers. The kids were very excited because they had never seen an airplane up close before.
On the 11-hour flight to Sao Paulo, the children mostly slept and we mostly didn't :) The masks were rubbing behind our ears and we were relieved when we reached our first destination. After landing in Sao Paulo, we had to spend another 7.5 hours there before our second flight to Buenos Aires took off. But thanks to empanadas and cola, we made it through that too and could tiredly embark on our final flight. It was a smaller aircraft than before and while there had still been some empty seats to Sao Paulo, this one was fully booked. There was nothing to drink or eat and the children were naturally at their limit.
