After having a trial run the day before, I used the insights gained for the next attempt on Monday, May 22, 2017. First, I rid my backpack of some (hopefully useless) ballast. Then, I made sure that all the important things were packed. Around 11:45 am, it was time to go again.
My route took me out of the city via the old Zschopauer Straße and down Lehmgrubenweg to Einsiedel. There, a beverage market tempted me for a first break. With a sweet Russ for me and a bowl of water for Rango, it was time to relax for a moment.
Continuing on, passing by the brewery and sawmill, and after leaving the village, turning right into the forest towards Kemptau. After conquering this hill (Geiersberg) as well, it was time for another break at the Zwönitz (shortly before Kamerun).
After refueling, my path led me across the river, up towards Kemtauer Felsen and back down to the Gelenau swimming pool. This marked the final climb. It was necessary to cross the B95 in order to reach Jahnsbach via the Schwarzer Teich and the dairy farm. In the scorching afternoon sun, these last nearly 8 kilometers felt longer than necessary. Around 7:00 pm, after covering about 26 kilometers and overcoming several altitude meters, I was glad to be able to finally put down my luggage.
