Sunday outing

Published: 03.09.2023

I didn't report anything yesterday. The day itself was good. Only the start was strange. Hildegard was tipped off the main stand by the strong wind that blew over Kvænangsfjellet that morning. Together with the landlord, she was able to be put back upright. But it was a shock at first to see her lying there like that. The clouds were up and it had been raining very lightly but steadily since the night. The ground was soggy, the main stand sank to different depths and then the wind did the rest.

Even though we were in the clouds and the wind was strong, we still managed to start and about 40 km later things were much better. Soon the town of Alta came into view. Here I was able to look at the rock carvings that are thousands of years old.

We continued on, now again without rain gear. The tree cover slowly reduced and reindeer came into my field of vision more and more often, but were not yet crossing the streets. A cycling competition was held in Skaidi using the E6. Then I saw a woman on a bicycle with her 6-year-old son on the attached children's bike. What an undertaking! We then met again at the hostel. They had completed their longest stage that day = 110km!

This morning we all set off again, each with the vehicle of their choice.

The area is becoming increasingly barren. I like that very much. The stone formations are beautiful and varied, the coast with its bays and fjords is always a feast for the eyes and the clouds don't hang so low today 😊

The last long tunnel on the E69, the Nordkapptunnelen, surprises with fog in the tunnel. But that too passes and the harbor and the houses of Honningsvåg come into view.

Now things are looking up. After a detour to the village of Gjesvær and admiring the views there, we drive the last kilometers to the North Cape and are there just in time for the best coffee time.

I'm in the North Cape.

The air temperature is pleasant, around 12 °Celsius. Thanks to the weather conditions, visibility is very good, the different lighting effects from sun, clouds and rain (in the distance) make the whole thing even more beautiful. Now I let myself drift and enjoy the view. Until it's time to return to the valley to find today's accommodation in the camp.
