After 2 layovers and 3 nights, we arrived at our destination in Brazil, the Ilha de Santa Catarina. I didn't just want to come here because of the name ;), but also because I landed here 13 years ago during my stay in Argentina and Dennis had been raving about this peninsula for a long time. Since a lot of time has passed, I was worried if it would still be as beautiful here as I remember. But luckily, what we found didn't disappoint us and Dennis is also thrilled with this spot. There are countless beaches, swimming and surfing beaches. The weather is very pleasant. Very warm, but the sun is not very intense due to a cloud cover, and the constant wind keeps it from getting too hot. It is the safest place in all of Brazil and there is a surfer mentality throughout the island: everyone is extremely helpful and treats you as if they have met an old friend. Many people hitchhike here. We recently picked up a nice guy with a ukulele. He is a professional musician. We told him that we have a ukulele with us but we don't play it well yet. Immediately, we exchanged numbers and maybe we will meet up with him soon and exchange ideas. Today we spent our evening at our spot behind the dunes in Barra da Lagoa with 'Bola de peixe' (fish balls) and a cool 'Eisenbahn' beer in front of our car. Eisenbahn is one of the tastiest beers we have come across in Brazil. It comes from Blumenau, the German village in Brazil, where there are half-timbered houses and the annual Oktoberfest attracts people from the surrounding area. Next to our spot is a turtle park where we can use the WiFi, and free Capoeira classes take place in this park twice a week. Last Thursday, I attended for the first time and it was so much fun. The teacher also invited us to have lunch, we just need to let him know when we want to come. Dennis has rented a surfboard over the past few days and is looking for the perfect waves. The weather is supposed to get worse soon. Maybe it's the perfect opportunity to take a trip to Blumenau and eat apple pie with cream and drink filter coffee in a half-timbered house ;) ;) ;).
