5 h bus ride over rough terrain until the pigskin cracks stood on the next day. Whitianga, a small sleepy town, was our next destination. Kayaking with a funny Japanese guy and a boat tour to the surrounding groves and the Cathedral Grove were on the agenda before heading to Hot Water Beach in the evening.
At low tide, you can dig your own little whirlpool here with a spade and enjoy the starry sky. The water is really boiling hot in some places.

Since traveling makes you pretty tired, we rented a small nice lodge one place further and didn't really do much for 2 days. A short hike followed by a visit to the beach was all we could manage.
