Day 7 and 8 - Say hello to the fish

Published: 10.12.2017

First item on the agenda: Buy yourself a shorty wetsuit!

Since the water is still too cold for us and our teeth chatter more underwater than they hold the snorkel, we needed a short neoprene suit.

We immediately put this new acquisition to the test. So, we first went to Mutton Bird Bay and then to Frenchman Bay. Both are beautiful beach areas in Albany, surrounded by rocks or small islands, where we could observe small fish and even a small octopus 🐠🦑

Later, we went up Mount Clarence, a mountain in the middle of the city that offers a beautiful view of Albany and the harbor. Next to Mount Adelaide is the Princess Royal Fortress Military Museum. It showcases the first military base for the defense of Australia.

On Day 8 of our trip, we went diving with our guides and other diving enthusiasts. We took a boat out to sea for reef diving. The first dive took place at Albany's Breaksea Island, where we dove under rocks and saw many fish and plants of various sizes and colors. On the way to Breaksea Island, we also got to observe dolphins. On the island itself, you can occasionally see seals sunning themselves.

After a short drive to the nearest beach, where we were provided with coffee, tea, and snacks, we continued with the second dive at Mistaken Island. Here, we were able to observe huge schools of fish, rays, and starfish.

It was two beautiful dives with a great crew and a bumpy boat ride.

After this eventful day, our journey continued to Esperance, which was 5 hours away. As dusk fell, the mosquitoes flew against the windshield like snowflakes.
