Sometimes the journey is the destination. In this vast country, that is currently true. Of course, we already have a few destinations we are heading to. The often very long distances from point A to point B lead us through scenic byways and mountain passes, forests, past hidden lakes and rivers. As a result, beautiful and special spots can be found around every corner, without having to visit the so-called highlights. And of course, it is much less crowded than in the major parks. Here in Wyoming, they make a great effort from a tourist perspective, which is why we stayed here longer than expected.
The pictures show our journey to Devils Tower National Monument. Once we arrived, the campsite invited us to stay and we stayed for three days. This monument is something special, even though it's just a rock. But still... Legend has it that a few girls were chased by some bears. They sought refuge on a big rock and asked the gods for help. The gods made the rock grow upwards and the bears tried to reach the girls with their claws, but could only reach the rock. When you look at the rock, it somehow fits 😉.
The whole park was very relaxed. Of course, there were also animals to see here. The prairie dogs were especially fun to watch, as they live here in large numbers and have their own kind of city.
We then continued through the Bighorn National Forest to Bighorn Canyon. Wild mustangs live here, and we were able to see one up close. And of course, the bighorn sheep couldn't be missing.
