4 days in Plovdiv

First time in Bulgaria... Until now, I didn't even know where in Europe I had to search for it... And here I am. I landed in Sofia and met Reto at the bus station... Since I don't trust my orientation skills with the metro, I'm taking a taxi. I have the big eyes with me, where the driver even speaks German with me :) and so I have already learned something about Sofia on this 15-minute drive. After a 2-hour bus/train ride, we finally arrived in Plovdiv. On the way to Reto's place... That's when I first heard about couch surfing and I got to experience how friendly the people are who do it. I am excited about this whole system, it's a great thing for anyone who likes to travel and wants to meet and get to know local people. Our host is a Greek music student who plays classical piano. The next morning, we spend time by the river in the city and I experience for the first time how a gaida sounds. Hmmm yes, my enthusiasm wasn't ignited by it, but I quickly got used to the very shrill sounds it can produce ;) in the afternoon, we went with Maxma (the host) for lunch and then enjoyed the sun on our heads in the amphitheater until he had to go back to school. It's a lovely atmosphere there. A true vacation feeling. The next day, we went with Maxma to explore Plovdiv a bit and learned about the 7 hills it has and visited 3 of them to enjoy the view over the city. The days passed by too quickly and in the end, we decided to spoil ourselves a bit by going to a spa, which is 2 hours away. We had a cozy evening there, with some swimming and sauna, and then it was time for bed again. The next morning starts early for me, at 6.20 I'm already on my way back to Sofia, saying goodbye to Bulgaria and Reto with a heavy heart. I didn't know then that I would hardly want to leave again :)
