The Herrenhäuser Gardens are among the most significant historic garden facilities in Europe and continue to shape Hanover's cultural heritage today. The ensemble unites baroque gardening art, botanical diversity, and architecture from several centuries. With the Great Garden, Berggarten, Georgengarten, and Welfengarten, they stand as a national monument to gardening mastery, scientific tradition, and city history.

The Great Garden is considered the centerpiece of the Herrenhäuser Gardens and is one of the most important Baroque gardens in Europe. The 50.2 hectares of garden area is nearly unchanged in its basic structure today. Along with the impressive gardening art, there are also various sculptures that are illuminated during special events, as well as a large fountain with a 70-meter high water column.

Consisting of individual gardens, the Great Garden is not only a popular destination for tourists.

The Berggarten in the Herrenhäuser Gardens lies north of the Great Garden and is one of the most significant botanical gardens in Europe. Originally established in the 17th century as a utility and vegetable garden for the Hanoverian court society, it evolved over time into an internationally recognized botanical display garden. The Berggarten is named after an old sand dune, of which the slight elevation is still noticeable in the terrain today.

Today, around 12,000 plant species from various climate zones grow here.
