Actually, we just wanted to stroll around today, browse here and there. We went straight to a tourist information office and the lady gave us great tips for Cuenca. She marked out a great route for us to walk on a city map, which included all the sightsπ.
The starting point was the new cathedral. We have never seen something so gigantic and beautiful before. We spent a long time inside the church. The magnificent altars in the side aisles, stained glass windows, wall decorations, marble columns, and the entire architecture completely fascinated us π.
We continued to the flower market. Here, a bouquet of 20 red roses only costs 2 dollars. Flowers must be very inexpensive here.
I really wanted to buy a cardigan in the Ecuadorian style here in Cuenca. So we went to the market square where the locals were selling their stuff. It was difficult to find the right cardigan with the right pattern. But I actually found one and I was so proud like π€Oskar ::-))!
We continued to walk the streets and visited the sights on the map. The path also followed the river for quite some time. The air here was much more pleasant than in the streets. I said to Daniela, wow, look at this gigantic building, should we take a closer look? In a blink of an eye, we were inside the building and it turned out to be a school. The building was a highlight not only from the outside, but also from the inside. It was a huge complex. With two schoolyards and a swimming pool. It was amazing. The kids were still in their classes when they saw us, they waved πand laughed.
My feetπ£π£ were starting to hurt and we didn't even plan to walk that much today. But Daniela really wanted to see a neighborhood where there were many local restaurants and houses. There was also an archaeological site on the plan.
We took a narrow park path and entered the building, thinking it was the entrance to the archaeological site. We were supposed to take a number and Daniela laughed. She saw the sign "Employment Agency"π!!!!!!!! Well, we were definitely in the wrong place. But quickly we found the right building and visited the archaeological site with a museum. Honestly, I found it mega boringπ₯΄. We didn't stay long either. Our last destination was the great neighborhood with the locals and it was really great. We enjoyed delicious food there πand the people were so nice. It was fun π.
I didn't want to walk another meter back, we had already walked 12.6 km π£. That was enough! So we took a taxi back to the city center. Hola, there was a demonstration going on and we were actually told to stay away from crowds! Yes, but there were so many police officers, so we walked past it. I even took photos of the police officers. Everything was completely harmless :-).
Now we're back at the hotel and we need to recover. Tomorrow we'll continue to Guayaquil by bus.
Best regards from Anke and Daniela
