We actually planned to visit the gardens of the "Château du Cordès" in the morning. According to the website, they were supposed to be open - unfortunately, they were not when we arrived.
So after viewing the outer wall and the locked gate, we continued to the village of Orcival.

The small village with only 230 inhabitants seemed rather sleepy, but it is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites for Mary in the Auvergne.

The Romanesque basilica is indeed quite impressive for such a small village.

We strolled through the village (which didn't take long due to its size) and looked at the church.
To conclude our visit, we ate at a small bistro that offered a “Tartine” as a local specialty. The cheese St. Nectaire, which topped the bread, was particularly local.

Rejuvenated (and somewhat overstuffed), we then made our way to the Roche de Sanadoire, a rock that remains from a volcano at 1290 meters high.

We circled the rock formation, although we also had to conquer some inclines.

The path mainly led us through a wooded area with occasional views of the towering rocks surrounding us.

We had a better view of the rocks of Tuilière and Sanadoire from a viewpoint where we made a short stop.

Finally, we drove to the village of Murat-le-Quaire.

Little of the former fortress of the village remains, but walking paths lead over the old defensive structures to a viewpoint.
