01 to Zurich
Today, I started from home earlier than planned – a little escape from the everyday routine! After I loaded my luggage onto the bicycle, I was ready for the adventure. Brigitte...

**Distance:** 72 kilometers, cumulative: 134 kilometers | **Elevation gain:** 280, cumulative elevation gain 609 meters, distance from home: 687 kilometers (as the crow flies)
A particular highlight yesterday in Zurich was the anticipated visit from André. We met in the large train station hall at Restaurant Federal, where André invited me to dinner. After 2 cozy hours, we then went to platform 7, from where the Nightjet was to depart. Exactly 30 minutes before departure, it arrived, and we could begin loading. How grateful I was to have André as support. I wouldn't know how I would have managed that without him. The bike had to be hung on a hook, which was a challenge with the weight of my e-bike. After a warm goodbye, I was left alone and began to set up in the cabin. Since I even received slippers, I wanted to take off my sneakers first. That worked well on the left, but on the right...? Despite my best efforts, I couldn't untie the shoelace, so I had to remove it as it was. In short: even today in daylight, I couldn't manage it. So I had no choice but to cut the lace.
My train attendant was very nice and helpful. Thanks to his support, I could quickly and without problems unload the bike and the luggage. So now I was in a large, almost unfamiliar city. Even finding the exit was not easy, and searching for the entry into the route to Bratislava was more luck than knowledge. Komoot guided me through winding routes of old and very modern neighborhoods. Eventually, I reached the Danube, which will often accompany me from here on.
I am writing this part of my report during my lunch break, that is, after over 50 kilometers. Just before, I had to ride over a 2.2-kilometer-long bridge with a cycle path that was narrow for me. But I just had to go through; there was no other option. The Danube bike path is otherwise quite nice and particularly easy to ride. For long stretches, it goes straight ahead and is very flat. The Danube or other water is rarely visible, even though I had to cross a huge nature reserve.
The border, just before Bratislava, was hardly noticeable, and I had to cross the Danube again. This time, however, the bike path was ideally wide, so I could even take photos.
My Airbnb is located slightly elevated beneath the castle, the landmark of Bratislava. To make it up the height difference, I had to go up some stairs. A man spoke to me and helped me spontaneously.
My accommodation is very good and well equipped. To be ready for going out, I took a short nap.
Now I am sitting here with my well-deserved evening beer, from where I send warm greetings to everyone: cheers! 😋
