Day #10

Sunday, 10th May

From Lichtenow to Stańsk

Animal sounds accompanied us through the night; in the morning, we wake up refreshed in the sunshine.

First, just a little lounging around, but the road calls, and shortly after 10:00, we make our way to the road.

We realize that outside the forest, it's really warm in the sun. So we stop again, shed a layer of clothes, reorganize, and off we go.

We have bad luck with the bakeries and arrive a quarter of an hour too late.

Luckily, our bags are filled with enough supplies that we will manage the day just fine.

Only the water is nearing its end.

The landscape is varied and presents itself to us in diverse ways.

The Märkische Switzerland makes us sweat again.

Apart from a few elevation changes, it remains flat, and we make good progress.

The familiar mix of country roads, forest paths, and villages accompanies us. And it’s always beautiful.

Only during our lunch break in the greenery do we notice how intensely the sun is shining down on us, which is why we take the time to apply sunscreen. The only food we have left are meager leftovers from the day before.

Pack for riding in such a way that you feel too warm while standing still.

At least that’s my motto; Dave has been out in a shirt since this morning.

At a gas station along the route, we replenish our water and then make good progress on the flat terrain.

Along the Oder, we can already see Poland, and by chance, we pass a spot where I once set up camp on an earlier tour.

Memories of a past journey resurface...

But the sun is still shining down on us, and we continue over the dike.

Just before the border to Poland, we break our personal milestone: 1000km

However, we only realize this in the camp.

The anticipation for the neighboring country is too great.

We encounter a vast and flat land. And as for how the roads are built, we already know.

The sight of a raccoon scurrying across the road in front of us is unfamiliar; it looks at us and then disappears again.

Many drivers are considerate on the country road, but some pass us so quickly and closely that we are relieved to be able to turn onto a side road after a few kilometers.

This leads through a large forest area, and we soon find a spot for the night.

It's so nice to throw yourself into the hammock after a day well spent, to gently sway and listen to the sounds of the forest. It's hard to stay awake. I really just want to lie down for a quick test.

During dinner, Dave researches where the barking from the forest comes from, which accompanies us every evening, and we learn that deer sound like dogs.

Then it's time for bed; we have an ambitious goal and should be well-rested.

The day after tomorrow, we want to be in Poznań.

We'll see.
