Attraction
Sky Tower
Auckland, Neuseeland

Today we will visit the Sky Tower, which is absolutely a must-see in Auckland.

The Sky Tower is a viewing and telecommunication tower located in Auckland, New Zealand. At 328 meters, it is the tallest television tower in the Southern Hemisphere.

The construction of the tower began in 1994 and it was opened on August 3, 1997. The tower was built by Fletcher Construction. The Sky Tower has three observation platforms at heights of 182 meters and 191 meters, and another open-air platform at a height of 220 meters. The lowest observation platform features a glass floor similar to that of the CN Tower in Toronto. A rotating restaurant and a bar revolve around their axis in 60 minutes.

Another attraction is the SkyJump, which can be done from the middle observation platform. This is a special form of base jumping where the jumper is slowed down by a programmed wire cable. For many visitors, this is a major attraction, as it allows for a base jump without risk. However, the cable braking means that one never reaches free-fall speed, which is a common complaint among lighter individuals. On special occasions, the tower is illuminated in different colors.

The Sky Tower hosts the largest FM broadcast transmitter in the world, meaning that its relatively short antenna has the most transmitters. This includes 58 microwave transmitters used for the broadcast of television programs, Wi-Fi, weather services, and more transmitting facilities. In total, the Sky Tower broadcasts 22 radio stations to the Auckland metropolitan area.
