Hauraki Gulf
Auckland, Neuseeland

Today we will take a boat trip in the Hauraki Gulf to observe dolphins and whales. We will see many dolphins and whales.

The Hauraki Gulf, officially named Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana since September 25, 2014, is a large bay in the northwest of the North Island of New Zealand, with access to the Pacific Ocean.

The Hauraki Gulf was formed after the last Ice Age about 10,000 years ago, when the ice masses melted and thus caused the sea level to rise. The large plain that lay between today's islands was flooded and became part of the ocean. A shallow body of water with numerous bays, peninsulas, and natural harbors was created. The coastal landscape was shaped by estuaries, wetlands, and a lush coastal forest landscape.
