Not slipping is half the battle!
Things got pretty busy here in Alta last night! It really stormed. The snow came horizontally - and not a little snow at all! The car took a beating, but we got to the campsite...

This morning the North Cape Road is open without convoy travel. We can easily manage the slope away from our house with the chains. We decide to leave the chains up… who knows…
The first few kilometers already have a steep climb and the road is very slippery! So we keep the chains up - thank God! Because we have to stop along the way because of the clearing equipment and getting out of there without chains is almost impossible! So we conquer the 13 km wonderfully. When we arrived at the North Cape, there were only 2 German motorhomes in the parking lot. They went up that night, also with chains or spikes. A cold wind is blowing and we go to the globe, enjoy the view of the wide sea, then want to at least have a coffee in the restaurant - but it's closed and doesn't open until lunchtime.

The wind is biting cold, so we set off again soon. Back to Alta because we have changed our plan again. Here are some pictures from the trip:
We actually wanted to go straight to Finland after the North Cape and go cross-country skiing there. But: A cold wave will start there tomorrow with around -20° during the day and around -30° at night. Cross-country skiing isn't really fun anymore, so we reschedule. We drive towards Tromsø, the city of the Northern Lights, and only then to Finland. We should be there until Thursday because we have booked a dog sled ride. Unfortunately, you have to book such activities here at least a week in advance, otherwise you have no chance... So: first Tromsø (maybe the sun will still have its way and storm a little) - then Finland!
Finally, an anecdote: At the campsite in Alta we met a Swiss man who traveled alone in a motorhome and went on ski tours lasting several days under adventurous conditions. Right now we're hearing strange music outside... and what do we see? A Swiss man playing the alphorn. Did he drag an alphorn here with him 😂
