We have arrived on the southern side of the Alps! The ascent from the Salzachtal to Böckstein near Bad Gastein (it feels like Emperor FRANZ and Sissi will come around the corner) was quite sweaty and sometimes very steep - but beautiful!
Impressive is also the relocation of the bike path to separate lanes in the car tunnel. This is enormously helpful for reducing altitude, just a little loud.
Up in Böckstein, we then boarded the train (for the next 11km, of which 8.4km are executed as a tunnel under the main Alpine ridge). On the other side of the so-called Tauernschleuse, you simply get off again - and continue, downhill - and how! It goes into the Mölltal, which then flows into the Drautal.
On this side of the Alps, we are hit by a one-hour, but very hot wind, which sometimes spoils the enjoyment of the downhill rides.
The wonderful nature, very friendly people we meet along the way (again and again), fill us with great gratitude. That this (pilgrimage) journey is possible, even more so!
