Surfing in El Paredon

Published: 30.09.2018

So, for once it's going to be very boring 😄 After all the exciting adventures in beautiful Guatemala, I had five days at the beach to end my trip. I had been told to go surfing in El Paredon on the Pacific coast. Even most Guatemalans have never heard of this place, making it a hidden gem.

The drive from Antigua takes about 2.5 hours, with the last 45 minutes on a bumpy dirt road along the coast. In the village, there are only a few accommodations and houses, all with thatched roofs and simple constructions. During the nightly thunderstorms, these roofs were shaken vigorously! I had booked the Paredon Surf House, which was a very good choice.

The daily routine was simple: Wake up, have breakfast (quickly), then laze around, surf, read, take a nap, have snacks, and lounge by the pool (in any order). For dinner, a large table was set up where all the guests ate together, which was usually very entertaining.

Here we have kilometers of wonderful beach and hardly any people. The surf conditions are not that easy (for a beginner like me), but I still had a lot of fun in the so-called Whitewat er.

The five days were perfect. But in the end, it was enough, because there really isn't much to do here except for surfing. In any case, I have gathered enough energy for the next adventure: EL SALVADOR!
