In the northeast of Brazil there is a desert called Lencóis de Maranhenses. From São Luis, a small bus took us to the tourist town Barrerinhas after a 4-hour drive. Our Pousada was located slightly outside the tourist hustle and bustle by the river. The next day, we headed to the desert to swim in the rainwater-filled pools. An unforgettable experience! On the following day, we watched the sunset in the desert before taking a boat upstream to the sea on the last day. We made nice acquaintances again: a professor from São Luis entertained us during the boat trip and Nora, a lady from São Paulo, offered her help in communicating, even though she only spoke Brazilian Portuguese.
