Falkland Islands (Day 1)

From Buenos Aires we set off - with a bit of delay, which is expected - to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego (the southern tip of Argentina). Here we board our ship, which this time is a proper ship and not just a nutshell. Thanks to better motorization, we actually manage to catch a glimpse of the Magellan Penguins residing in the Beagle Channel, bringing our total to 15 of the 18 penguin species seen so far.

With calm waters - and thus no risk of seasickness - we travel over two nights and one day to the Falkland Islands, where on our first day we visit mixed colonies of Black-browed Albatrosses and Rockhopper Penguins. For both species, most of the chicks have already hatched, so we spend a lot of time observing the cute little ones (and, okay, also the adults).

In calm seas - and therefore without sea sickness - we travel in 2 nights and a day to the Falkland Islands, where we - on our 1st day here - visit colonies of Black-browed albatrosses and Rockhopper Penguins. For both species, the majority of chicks where hatched already, and so it takes extra time to watch the Little ones (and, of Course, the adults as well).
