Meanwhile, our time in Chiang Mai is over because on 12.09.2018 we returned to Bangkok and from there to Bali.
But I have to say, Chiang Mai is truly a special city that will stay in my memory for a long time with its unusual charm.
My highlights in Chiang Mai:
1️⃣ The Lullaby Hostel
One of the most unique hostels I have ever experienced. It is not located in the main tourist area of Chiang Mai, but everything is still within walking distance. The staff are incredibly nice and friendly, making it a place to relax and feel comfortable.
2️⃣ The night markets of Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai has several night markets, so you can find a new one or a new part of a market every evening. One of the most famous is the Sunday Night Market. The night markets have many food stalls, as well as stalls selling jewelry or beautiful trinkets, most of which are handmade. Many of our souvenirs come from the night markets in Chiang Mai.
3️⃣ The culture of Chiang Mai
In Chiang Mai, you can find many different temples that are not only beautiful on the outside but also uniquely designed on the inside. This gives you a special and unique impression of the foreign culture and history.
My favorite is Wat Chedi Luang.
4️⃣ The hike from Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is a Buddhist temple complex located about 15km west of the city center. It is situated at an elevation of 1,200 meters in the Doi Suthep National Park. We took a taxi up, but we hiked back along the Pilgrims Path. This took three hours and was very challenging in temperatures over 30°C. The path was not well-defined and sometimes steep, but the stunning views along the way made the 19km and the effort worth it.
5️⃣ My biggest highlight was, of course, the day at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary.
