Shortly before arriving in Tórshavn, there was a commotion on the ship. Excitement filled the air as many rushed to the duty-free shop, while others gathered on the upper deck to capture the moment of entering the harbor through photographs and videos. I too held up my camera to capture this moment in the windy but bright evening sky.
The relieving announcement on the loudspeaker, 'Parkeringsdæk er nu åben', followed by 'The car deck is now open', did not take long. It was also time for me to retrieve my locker, put on my motorcycle pants and boots, and pack everything that was still in the cabin, including the bottle of whiskey I had bought on board yesterday.
Stupid idea, where was I going to store it? The suitcases and luggage rolls are already full. The same goes for my backpack. There wasn't enough time to finish the drink, so I postponed the problem for now and headed towards Deck 2 with Laphroaig and its 40% ABV under my arm. There was quite a crowd here. Everyone wanted to get to their vehicles, which were parked close together. Like crossing a river with chest-high water, holding the backpack over my head, I finally reached Suzi.
For the journey to the hotel, I had decided to wear the backpack on my back, so my transportation problem for today was solved. The MS Norröna had docked on time, but it took another hour before I could roll off the ship.
My hotel is a three-minute drive from the pier, so after checking in and bringing my belongings to the room, I fell into bed like a stone. But before that, of course,
...I opened the window wide.
