For us, it started on Tuesday morning for the new job. We had about 6 hours of driving ahead of us. Arriving a little tired, we were already expected by the "boss". She invited us to dinner right away in the evening, she said her brother and another friend would also come. In advance, she showed us our house where we can live, we had already resigned ourselves to sleeping in the tent again to save costs. But we don't have to pay for this. Our own house for two with too many rooms, sometimes a bit spooky 😬when I look out the window I have a direct view of the horses, as soon as the door is open, the lovely dogs from the farm come to visit me and 10 meters away there are probably the biggest chickens I have ever seen and one that lays green eggs, real farm life 😁
Well, arrived and unpacked, we went to Fiona (boss) for dinner at 7 o'clock sharp, but she was still far from ready, we didn't eat until about 8 o'clock - punctuality is not Australia's strong suit 😬 but the wait was worth it! Had funny conversations and a meal that left nothing to be desired. From salad to chicken, from vegetables to potatoes, from wine to beer and not already full enough, dessert. We said goodbye for the evening and went to sleep to be fit on the first day of work.
Wednesday was the day. We have to dig the holes (more like the work of the men), then they have to be watered so that the lemon trees can be planted. When the cart is empty, we go back to the farm, which is only two minutes away, and the next trees are packed and loaded into the car. Hard work, but good money. At 9:30 a.m. there is a breakfast break where there is fresh coffee, tea, toast and homemade banana bread. There is another 30-minute break at 1 p.m. and the end of the working day is at 4:30 p.m. Chilled water cans are of course always available during work. Yes, we have really hit the jackpot here 😊. However, yesterday the first "rainfall" came, I apparently got a sunstroke on the first day of work, which is why I decided to stay in bed yesterday... Headaches were just one of the symptoms 😷 well today, thank God, everything was fine again and we went back to work. 💪🏼 On the first day of work, she asked if we would like to stay a little longer than two weeks, she still has enough to do here on the farm. We will probably accept the offer 🙂.
