Guanajuato - Day 11

Published: 21.04.2022

Today, after breakfast, I spent the morning visiting museums. First, I visited the Museo Iconográfico del Quijote. Many people are familiar with Don Quijote, the fictional character from Miguel de Cervantes' novel, who fights against windmills. Guanajuato has dedicated an entire museum to him, showcasing beautiful works by various artists.

After that, I went to the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a former grain storage building from 1809. It was the site of the first battle between loyalist Spaniards and Mexican freedom fighters during the Mexican War of Independence. Today, the museum houses archaeological and ethnological artifacts from the region, as well as exhibits about the history of Mexican independence and revolution. Very interesting!

Lastly, I visited the Museo Diego Rivera. It is the birthplace of the famous painter and houses various paintings, particularly early works and sketches (unfortunately, photography was not allowed). Additionally, certain rooms were still furnished as they were in the early 19th century.

In the afternoon, I enjoyed the sun and the pool and did a lot of reading. I also had dinner there: The guacamole I ordered for an appetizer in the early evening was such a huge portion that I wasn't hungry afterwards...
