After breakfast in the beautiful atrium of my hotel, I made my way to Cholula. There, I visited the ruins of the once-largest Mesoamerican pyramid. For centuries, people thought the hill with a pretty church on top was just a normal mountain, but it was only discovered during excavations in the late 19th century.
I made a short stop at the San Francisco de Acatepec church. It is a beautiful example of High Baroque architecture in Mexico (according to my guide...). The facade is covered with azulejos (tiles) and bricks. Inside, no expense was spared with gold leaf.
On my way to Cuernavaca, I finally made a stop in Tepoztlán. It is actually a charming village that I know from my first time in Mexico, but today it was way too crowded and also very hot, so I quickly moved on to Cuernavaca...
Arriving at Hotel Las Mañanitas brought back many memories. I had spent so many wonderful moments here 23 years ago! I had promised myself back then that if I ever returned to Cuernavaca, I would definitely stay at this hotel. It is an oasis in the bustling city, simply amazing!
I spent the evening in good company. My sister Simone connected me with an acquaintance. It was very exciting and entertaining to exchange thoughts about life with Virginia.
