Adrenalindosis for today gone wild

Published: 26.08.2018

As the English/Dutch/Danish/American girls checked out, the hostel became quieter and our group reduced to three people (us and an American from Nebraska). So the next day we had a chill day by the pool and learned some Spanish. We were briefly startled when we saw a huge spider, but then realized that it was already dead... all good. But today there was more going on: first, we went on a waterfall hike. Somehow we could only reach the waterfall from above, so we stood on the waterfall instead of underneath, as we had hoped. So we just bathed in the river. But that was (at least for me) enough action. First of all, there were too many big spiders for my taste (this time not dead), but I could handle that... While I was sunbathing on a rock, Cony suddenly startled and looked at the rock next to me. A rat (without a tail... maybe they were just oversized hamsters, I don't know, but I found it ugly) ran across the rock, then the next one, and the next one. Since I hate rats, I started screaming and quickly moved away from the rock. Quote 5 before the rats arrived: 'Stay on the rock, it's a safe haven'. Quote 5 minutes later: 'My adrenaline is definitely out for today. Oversized hamsters are so ugly. I am now ready for Medellin.' But then, 5 minutes later, a snake appeared, chasing the rats, and it turned out that my adrenaline was not completely gone yet. So I was happy to leave the river and hike to the 'Chocolate Farm'. There we had a guided tour in Spanish, we could make our own chocolate, taste it, and even got a chocolate mask. Back at the hostel, I wanted to use the toilet, but had to wait because it was occupied... by a snake! Great.. that's when my daily dose of adrenaline was really used up, or maybe I just got used to it. One of our friends drove us back to the hostel, where we are now having beer and watching Netflix documentaries with old acquaintances. Tomorrow we will continue to Medellin.
