Day 187 Kangaroo Valley - meet the locals

Published: 22.12.2022

Now we are leaving Wagga Wagga for an important next stop on Stuart´s travel to meet the local wildlife: Kangaroo Valley. Already on our drive to Kangaroo Valley Stuart discovered an echidna walking around. This was the first echidna on our trip, just before crossing the Hampden one-way Bridge.

For the evening we wanted to show Stuart some wombats, so we drove to the Bendeela campground. At first we only saw Kookaburras singing their distinctive song before Stuart discovered some kangaroos. Unfortunately, the kangaroos were not so relaxed, so as soon as Stuart went over to say hello, they jumped away.

Just a little bit later Stuart found the first wombat, the closest relative to a koala. Stuart thought that the wombat did not really look like relatives of koalas, but still cute to watch.

On the campground as well as on our way back to the accommodation there were lots of other kangaroos and some, mostly very shy, colorful birds to watch.
