Day 29, 11/05. the Oasis Huacachina
In the morning, we booked a last-minute quad tour in the desert for the morning. This quad tour turned out to be “driving around on a pie

The pickup at the hostel in the oasis of Huacachina at 8 AM - booked as a private ride - went well. Although it was a bit different than expected 😂. In front of the hostel, there was a quite new KIA. On the passenger seat was a nice younger Peruvian woman. However, to fit our suitcases in the trunk, the driver first had to sort out about 15 plastic bags filled with (dead) plucked chickens 😳!
Once that was done, we set off towards Nasca. The conversation with the driver and his female companion was difficult but sometimes funny. For the first half hour, she was constantly on the phone – it was a bit annoying. As is often the case, everyone asked where we were from – and here too. When I replied, “Europe - Germany - Portugal,” the nice young lady directly asked me if I would take her with me. She lives alone with her 5-year-old son and could come with us right away 😳😳🤣🤣
On the way, we suddenly stopped in a small town, and the woman got out of the car and rang a doorbell. We were a bit confused. The reason: the initial phone calls from the nice lady appeared to be sales calls – she was selling the previously mentioned chickens directly from the car to houses. 😆
After 3 hours and a few more short stops, we finally reached Nasca. Our driver stopped in the middle of the city – the “private ride” was over. It was getting exciting now. The airline was responsible for the remaining transport to the airfield on the other side. Along the way, I received a message via Messenger from someone claiming to be their driver. I was supposed to share our location as soon as we arrived in Nasca. I was a bit skeptical - but what other options were there?! So I shared our location - we were on a main street in the middle of a city. No sooner had our “taxi” stopped than a modern minibus was already behind us - the airport transfer!
After that, everything went quickly: luggage loaded, drive to the airport, luggage unloaded, and placed in the airline's office. The formalities for the flight were completed,…. And after an introduction by the pilot, we were already in the air. The flight in a 6-seater, single-engine Cessna lasted exactly 30 minutes.
I have commented on the flight among the pictures.
Unfortunately, we had to turn back a bit earlier, as one of the other passengers felt unwell - the turns were tight, which can upset the stomach if you're not used to it 🤢🤮🤣
Afterwards, we were driven by the airport transfer to a quite nice hotel where we could spend the time until our bus departure in the direction of the Chilean border.
However, we had several hours to spare until then. So I asked the driver if he could take me to two or three other pre-Columbian sites. We quickly reached an agreement, and after 30 minutes, he arrived in his private car at the hotel 😬
More about this in the second report of this day…
