lots of babies :)

This week was really cool. It started on Monday night with a power outage. And when there's a power outage here, nothing works. For breakfast, I ate a few frozen breads by candlelight (because the toaster didn't work and I was too hungry to wait for them to thaw), the faucets and toilets didn't work, and the water for the animals didn't work either. But the advantage is that the kids don't have to go to school because there are no buses and the school can't be heated, and Sean didn't have to go to work until the power came back on because his workplace couldn't be heated either. If we had something like this in Germany, I would have been so happy that I didn't have to go to school :)

On Tuesday morning it was -35°C and the funny thing is that when you've been here for a while, you don't find it cold anymore....you just put on a few more socks and you can spend the whole day outside without freezing. But the animals were freezing. We had to bring almost all the lambs into the house to dry them off, and now we already have 20 of them. (I'm slowly losing track). And we also got a new calf. It was so frozen outside that we brought it into the house twice. But I thought that was nice, because in the evenings you can sit next to the calf in your pajamas and feed it with a bottle. When it had to go back outside, we put a hat on it so its ears wouldn't freeze (they always get cold first). And Tom (one of the dogs) was allowed inside twice to warm up too. Because he has the thinnest fur and sits outside and shivers. Yes, we always have a full house here and not much sleep, because someone is usually born in the evenings and you still have to get up at 4 in the morning. But I think it's so beautiful when you're eating breakfast and 2 little lambs are running around under the table and the calf is mooing in the hallway. And Kitty is just wondering what all these strange animals are in his house. Kitty now always drinks from the toilet and once he fell in. I thought that was really funny :D but Kitty didn't like it because no one wanted to pet him anymore.

In the first few weeks here, I didn't have much to do and sometimes got bored in between, but now I'm outside continuously from 8am to 6pm and also overnight whenever something happens. And the best part is that all the work is enjoyable and every day is different. When you wake up in the morning, you have absolutely no idea what you're going to do today and how the day will turn out. And this week, I was present for at least one birth every day. Yesterday, Laurie showed me how to make homemade chocolate ice cream and today we'll eat it for dinner ;) And I'm also looking forward to tomorrow. I'm going to Prince George with Sean and John to watch a hockey game :)
