Today we stayed overnight in Mariposa. We set off driving north around 9:00 AM. Our destination today is Lake Tahoe, which is about 4 hours away.
Initially, we drove through partially burned fields to the highway. Even in Mariposa, some building remnants and many trees were affected by a past fire.
Our first stop was in Sonora. In this beautiful old town with many older shops, we paused briefly to buy our first coffee and a fresh bread. Good bread is truly hard to come by here. This limp chemical stuff from the supermarkets can hardly be accepted as bread by a German.
From Sonora, we continued north through the Stanislaus National Forest. A truly beautiful route with many lakes and other wonderful sections of road (I almost wished I had a motorcycle for this part😉) that led us up to 2700 m.
In the afternoon, around 4:00 PM, we arrived at Lake Tahoe. We wanted to go to the beach, but it was leased and cost $30 per person. We would have had to wait another quarter of an hour and then only pay ten dollars. Instead, we went to the adjoining bistro for a drink.
Overall, it was a very nice day with many new impressions. Our hotel is the Holiday Inn in South Lake Tahoe, where we will stay for three days to explore the lake and the surroundings.
