Roadtrip Flores- Stage 2: Bajawa

Published: 26.09.2019

Today we went up and down many hairpin bends and then up and down again heading east :-)! First, we were at a crater lake surrounded by rainforest. It was a real oasis for relaxation. A short time later, there were three monkeys sitting by the roadside and I asked Franko to stop. The monkeys stared at us, they wanted to get some food. I still had a banana for my stomach. Hm, the three of them looked so funny, so I gave them my banana. With their loot, they sat proudly on a tree and devoured the banana.

The next stop was a restaurant on the beach. Here, Daniela and Franko had freshly caught fish. It was prepared on the grill. And what did I have? Right - RICE - ugh. Hopefully I will get over this stomach/intestinal issue soon, because it's really annoying.

After the delicious meal for Daniela, we continued to Bena, the most famous traditional village in Flores with 40 houses and about 120 residents. The houses looked very special. The locals sat in front of them to sell their goods. Most of the goods were spices or woven scarves. I quickly finished the tour of the village, because it was extremely hot.

Finally, we went to bathe in hot volcanic water. At the bathing spot, a river meets hot volcanic water with cold water. It was really great. One also had to be careful not to get too much into the hot part, because it gets really hot. A little later, several locals also lined the place. It was nice to see, they took out their soaps, washed themselves, brushed their teeth, etc. Had their bath.

Now we're sitting in our hotel and enjoying the rest of the evening.

Best regards, Anke and Daniela
