25kg for 365 days...

seems almost impossible! At least it feels that way to me. Especially when considering that I was advised to leave at least 2-3 kg as a buffer and then add the weight of the suitcase itself (about 5 kg in my case).

I'm flying with Emirates to Auckland and therefore have 25kg of free baggage + laptop bag and 7kg of carry-on baggage. I can forget about the buffer since my suitcase is full, but I still managed really well! With about 24.5 kg, I am perfectly on track and later some space will be freed up again as some things simply get consumed (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.).

The nice thing about Auckland is that there is a temperate climate there - and on the rest of the upper North Island. In clear terms, this means: not extremely hot and not extremely cold. In addition, it is currently summer there. So, I am traveling from our cold winter to the most beautiful summer to late summer. However, it seems to rain quite frequently in Auckland. So definitely pack a raincoat! Just like sunscreen! In New Zealand, the sun's UV rays are stronger than in most parts of Europe and North America due to the clear, less polluted air and the geographical latitude. They have the following guidelines there: 'Between eleven and three stay under a tree' and
'Slip, slop, slap and wrap' ['Slip on a shirt (and/or slip into some shade)'; 'Slop on sunscreen'; 'Slap on a hat'; 'Wrap on a pair of sunglasses'.] When I read this on the page provided in the sources, I found it so interesting that I couldn't resist adding it. By now, I also know how seriously you should take it... Approximately 20 minutes without sunscreen in the sun and you'll get a sunburn. I haven't had one yet. Thankfully!

Packing is unfortunately not my only problem. Since a year is quite long, I have to open a New Zealand bank account and apply for a tax identification number. I am being supported in this by my agency. Nevertheless, sometimes you wish you could go back to school and go back two years to the 'carefree' life. Growing up can be really annoying sometimes.
