We woke up and both still have a sore throat, it gets more or less overnight.
As beautiful as the lakeside campsite is, it is located right in the middle of everything. That's why we wanted to go to the beach today. On the right the weather was not so good and on the left there was at least sunshine. So after the berry-rich breakfast we drove to Hot Water Beach in Kawhia.
The long and lonely black sand beach could be reached via dunes, really cool. On hot water beaches you can dig holes and then warm water comes from below. But you need real shovels to do this. Just for fun, we dug very close to the water and after just an arm's length water came, but here only cold water. We contented ourselves with digging a hole for E, where she played happily and didn't want to go to the water. So we didn't have a wet child, but we did have one full of black sand :D Later, professionals came with real shovels and dug several short, quick holes and then a really big one where it was warm, but there were 6 of them The weather held up well and we had hardly any wind, but sunshine and nice loud waves.
On the way back we filled up with the cheapest diesel ever, unfortunately we probably lost E's sheep at the gas station too, it must have fallen out when we opened the door. We'll notice tomorrow how bad it is, we have other stuffed animals with us, otherwise we'll have to get a new one. We also had a small incident with the camper and we have to see what happens tomorrow and how we can get it fixed. Oh dear.
In the evening the lake was lit up beautifully pink by the sunset. Tomorrow we're off to Hobbiton yay.
