Sunday 11.11 - Saturday 18.11.
I made my way to McEwans Beach, where Gavin Stables lives. He is a native New Zealander married to a Canadian. He works as an airplane engineer at Virgin Airlines and has built a very, very large house right by the sea with the money, which is equipped with luxury items. Expensive flooring, fine tiles, many palm trees in the garden, and more.
His work for me was to redesign the front yard and the landscape around the barn.
This included moving many large stones, spreading gravel, earth and mulch, planting trees and plants, and watering everything. Gavin had time off until Thursday, so we were able to work together most of the time. It was sometimes very hard work, and when he was at work, I postponed the heavy work a little and meanwhile moved more than 200 young palm trees.
The best work was spending a whole morning installing new LED strips as highlights in his house. I had my own apartment on the property with a kitchen, bathroom, TV including a DVD collection, and a very comfortable bed. Because I was allowed to live here, I didn't earn such a high hourly wage, but in the end, it was $725 for my account for 62.5 hours. In the mornings, I always received a large cup of fine cappuccino, and in the evenings, we always ate together. This way, I also learned a lot about Australia, and it was exciting to tell and discuss the German history in English. Overall, I had a very pleasant time, and the days passed by quite quickly. I also fixed María's music system in between, as it didn't quite work.
