Head to Gansbaai

Today we packed our bags in Cape Town, loaded the car, and drove south via Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Camps Bay to Hout Bay.

We drove the Chapman's Peak Drive in reverse direction again and enjoyed the magnificent view of Hout Bay.

Passing Noordhoek and Cape Point Vineyard's, which still brings back good memories of the picnic with the Studers, we continued towards Fishhoek/Kalk Bay. Then along False Bay high above St. James to Muizenberg, where we followed the beach road towards Somerset West.

Actually, we wanted to have a picnic at the Vergelegen Winery for lunch, but it was fully booked.

So we continued towards Gordon's Bay via Clarence Drive towards Rooi-Els, where we stopped at the only restaurant for our lunch break. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation, but the pub behind it benefited from that, as it filled up in the next half hour.

After our refreshment, we continued towards Kleinmond, then to Hermanus and finally to Gansbaai, where we checked into our accommodation right by the sea. We enjoyed the view from the terrace while sipping a glass of Chenin Blanc, and upon closer inspection, Helena discovered two rock hyraxes in the rocks in front of us, which we followed for a while.

The owners Jill and Gideon are very nice and helpful, they explained everything to us, and we even got a better located room that unexpectedly became available. From our room and from the general terrace, we have an unrestricted view of the bay of Hermanus. According to Jill, there are mother whales with calves in the bay, and we hope to see them during breakfast.

Jill reserved a table for us at Kloek@home, a restaurant like at home in the living room, with a manageable choice, but everything fresh and well-prepared. Since they don't have an alcohol license, Jill advised us to bring a bottle of wine from our accommodation.
