Today we want to hike on the Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula.
For this, we have booked a taxi and a boat. In the morning, we will take a taxi to Baia d'Abra and in the afternoon, we will return from the Quinta do Lorde Resort harbor.
The hike will take us 3 km to the easternmost point of Madeira. With the constant ups and downs over spectacular cliffs (a total of 400 meters in elevation) and with several photo stops, we will need about 2 hours for this. We will be rewarded with breathtaking views when the sun is shining.
At the end of the tour, we will find Casa do Sardinha, a small green oasis with a cafe. We will treat ourselves to a drink in the shade before boarding a speedboat. It will take us past the bird island Ilhéu da Cevada with its steep cliffs to the 500-year-old lighthouse. An impressive building on the steep little island Ilhéu do Farol, where lighthouse keepers of the past used to live alone.
On the boat with us is a group of young Portuguese who loudly celebrate the question of circumnavigating the island with high waves on the open sea. The boat speeds up and we fly or jump over the waves, hold on tight, and are glad when it becomes peaceful again. We sail below the hiking trail and admire the multi-colored volcanic layers in the rocks. We can also enter a small cave.
Back at the harbor, the taxi awaits us, and a beautiful excursion comes to an end.
