Roadtrip Tag 73 / Red Center Way

Published: 28.11.2017

Püklich for sunrise we woke up. Padi was excited about the weather and decided to light his campfire now. With a great fire and a unique view we experienced the sunrise. Afterwards we said goodbye to the other travelers from the evening before and set off. It was 155km on a gravel road (along the Red Center Way), which was partly in bad condition. We encountered many wild horse herds on and beside the road. Beautiful horses with the perfect athletic body. Shortly before the end of the road there was a huge camel by the roadside. We were once again surprised how green and overgrown everything is here in the desert. This was not always the case, only for the past 20 years it has been raining in this region and for the past 10 years the plants have been growing. Finally back on asphalt, we drove to a lookout point and cooked something to eat. Well fortified, we visited some of the West MacDonald Ranges attractions. The ochre is an important memorial site for the Aboriginals. However, we preferred to see something with water, so we continued driving. The bathing lake was nice, but we weren't really interested in swimming. We decided that we had seen enough and wanted to get back to Darwin as quickly as possible. At some point you have seen enough. So we drove until 10km before Alice Springs and visited a campsite there. Since it was supposed to storm again at night, we were lucky and were able to park between two permanent campers.
