Paraty

Published: 13.02.2020

From Rio we make a detour to Paraty. After a 4-hour minivan ride, we arrive at this pretty colonial town, located between Rio and Sao Paulo. We are completely enchanted by this idyllic seaside village. The rough cobblestone streets were laid by slaves in the 17th century and can be a bit challenging to walk on, especially after heavy rains, which occur almost daily here. The charming streets are filled with a wide selection of good restaurants and cafes. As a former stronghold of sugarcane cultivation, you can still find some cachaceries, one of which produces the delicious liqueur 'Gabriela' 😋. Ancestors of the Mann family had a cachaca factory here.
