After a successful farewell evening at the university, we eagerly but with mixed feelings waited to be picked up by our host families. For some of us, it was a reunion as they had already hosted their Russian students in Germany. For others, including myself, it was a completely new meeting.
Then the time had finally come, our host families were waiting for us in front of our hostel. The first impression was very positive. We greeted each other and went to the accommodations with our families.
I was expecting a small apartment on the 10th floor, where I would live with my host mother and my exchange student Ilya.
The next morning, after a rich and hearty breakfast, we went on an excursion. Together with Kathi, Sophi, and their exchange partners, we visited the Oldenburg Castle. It was very exciting and with the help of an audio guide, we learned about the history of this castle.
After the visit, we drove to a lake and enjoyed a lavish picnic with savory and sweet dishes. With full stomachs, we continued to the third largest shopping center in Russia and ended the day with a visit to the local aquarium.
Now we eagerly await the next day to finally be able to visit the Russian high school.
