In Icefield Park, there is another glacier to discover after every curve. Despite very cool temperatures of 5-9° and a lot of clouds and short heavy rain showers, we manage to get a relatively dry view of the Athabasca Glacier up close. On the way back, there is even some sunshine. It is shocking how quickly the glacier is melting and how little understanding there is among tourists or organizers. Unfortunately, it is quite normal here to leave the car running when parking or getting in, and large numbers of guided buses drive onto the glacier field. On the other hand, there are exhibitions on how to deal with the environment and how to save energy.
