Maggie is going home next week. Tomorrow she has her last shift, but today was the last day with lessons. Luis had the children in his classes draw something for Maggie or, as seen in the photos, make a handprint. There was no class, which made Maggie quite uncomfortable. Tomorrow we will be on duty together, but before her departure we also want to meet in the city again. Bye, bye dear Maggie!
Now I'm going to the cathedral with the family and the other two volunteers. Tonight is the closing event of the Virgin Festival. Something happens at midnight, I think Maria has to go back on her pedestal. I was just in town with Silvana - I already had 2 glasses of rum - there was already a lot going on. Poppy Mary chants, stalls, a bit like a fairground without rides.
My hope that the fireworks would finally stop has already been shattered. Another traditional festival is now starting, and the fireworks continue seamlessly. Last night looked like this for me:
Slept around 10:30pm
Small firework display at the cathedral at 12:29am
English pop radio from the neighbor at 5:30am
Bell ringing at 6:00am to start the mass, including salutes.
But it should get better after Christmas.
I have to go...
