Very often we are inspired by Instagram and Facebook photos for excursion destinations. That's how we came up with the idea to hike to the Windin Falls. I think the pictures speak for themselves:
The Windin Falls are located in the Wooroonooran National Park. In this park, you can find waterfalls every few kilometers.
I believe the Windin Falls are the only ones that don't have an official trail and are not mentioned in any travel guide.
The trail there is already adventurous and once you arrive, you'll be standing at the top of the waterfall which drops approximately 100m.
Normally, you can also swim there, but unfortunately we had the misfortune that it had been raining for days and so much water came down that we would have been swept away immediately.
But let's start from the beginning. On the internet, I found the following instructions on how to get to the waterfalls: https://thegingerwanderlust.com/2018/10/09/how-to-get-to-windin-falls-epic-infinity-pool-in-the-atherton-tablelands/
When we arrived at the parking lot, there was already the first warning sign.
This, of course, didn't deter us. And the rain didn't bother us either. Equipped with rain capes and umbrellas, we set off.
It was a pretty muddy and verrrrry slippery hike through the rainforest. Often the path was just one big puddle.
Soon, we didn't have any phone reception and constantly wondered if we were even on the right path. There were no signposts. We just kept walking and after about 2 hours, we actually reached our destination.
We stood there and enjoyed the view when we noticed something crawling on our legs. We had collected some leeches along the way that had attached themselves and were happily sucking our blood. Luckily, they are not dangerous!
We quickly realized that we couldn't go swimming. But just for this view, the march was worth it!
Of course, the pictures would have been much nicer in sunny weather.
Well, on our travel route, we will pass by here again and maybe we'll have better weather then.
The way back was, just like the way there, quite slippery and my shoes were soaked in mud, which is why I threw them away on site.
Afterwards, we continued towards Cairns to sell our car. To avoid any stress before our departure, we decided to sell Karl now and continue traveling in a rented camper.
When we left the parking lot, we discovered a python that was digesting its prey.
