3rd Day: Ubud

Published: 27.06.2018

After some rain in the early morning, it cleared up again fortunately soon.

We rented three scooters and cruised around with them. After initial difficulties - driving on the left side, long legs making it difficult to steer, or traffic rules that were followed and interpreted according to feeling - everyone had fun. I remain skeptical of motorized two-wheelers. But all in all, I also enjoyed it.

First, we drove to the Water Palace in Ubud. After visiting it, we made a short stop at the Starbucks right next to the Water Palace. Then we continued to Goa Gajah - a cave dating back to the 9th century and known for its stone carvings of Hindu gods.

We then continued towards Tegenungan Waterfall. On the way there, we got hungry, so we made a stop at the Umah Sate restaurant. There we all had Sate to eat.

After being strengthened, we continued to the waterfall. After many photos and steps, Papa and I made our way back to the hotel. Meanwhile, Anna and Bastian visited the Butterfly Park.

At 5 PM, we were picked up. We went to a Balinese family. Together, we visited the village temple, which was connected by many steps but very impressive.

Back at the family's house, we were allowed to help with the production of the offering baskets. These are made from coconut leaves and stitched together in the middle.

After a tour of the courtyard with an explanation of the arrangement of the individual houses and the family temple, dinner was served. Each person took rice, vegetables, and meat and sat down somewhere with their plate.

After dinner, we were briefly introduced to Balinese dance and then taken back to the hotel.
